There are few wedding destinations as iconic as Lake Como.
With its historic villas, mountain-lined shores, and unmistakable sense of romance, it’s a place that feels effortlessly cinematic. It’s one of the reasons I’m continually drawn to European destinations and historic venues like Villa Balbiano, where the setting does more than host a celebration. It shapes the entire experience.
Villa Balbiano is one of those rare venues that offers both grandeur and privacy, set directly on the water with sweeping views of the lake and surrounding landscape. Its historic interiors and gardens feel distinctly Italian, while the lake itself brings a softness and calm that makes every part of the day feel immersive.
A Lake Como Wedding
For this celebration, the ceremony took place on the villa’s terrace overlooking the water, where the open view of Lake Como created a striking and intimate setting for the exchange of vows. Framed by the villa and the lake beyond, it felt grand, elegant, and deeply connected to the landscape.
Following the ceremony, the reception moved outdoors for an al fresco dinner set against the villa itself.
The design embraced a colorful palette, layered with florals and richly textured details that brought warmth and vibrancy to the setting. The long table felt celebratory and inviting, balancing the formal elegance of the villa with a more relaxed atmosphere under the open sky. The historic façade in the background and the lake just beyond created a setting that felt quintessentially Italian.
One of the most memorable parts of the day was the couple’s private boat ride across the lake.
Stepping away from the celebration for a quiet moment together allowed space to slow down and take in the day before returning to their guests. These in-between moments often become some of the most meaningful, and on Lake Como, experiencing the landscape from the water feels like an essential part of the story.
